Weighing the “pros” and “cons” of starting your own business? I know what it’s like.

When I first decided to found the Briggs Law Group here in Phoenix, I knew what a big step that was, and I certainly did not take it lightly. But I am proud to say that starting my own small business was one of the best things I have ever done in my life. And so, to help you in your decision-making, here are three big benefits to starting your own business:

1) Be your own boss! – Sick of working for someone? Tired of being just another cog in the bureaucratic chain? Want nothing more than to be, as Seinfeld would put it, the “Master of Your Domain?” Well, that’s one of the big bonuses of starting your own business: you move right to the top. Whether you’re starting the business with a partner or on your own, you will be getting an instant promotion. Talk about a perk!

2) Follow your passion! – There is no doubt that passion is a major reason why you gravitated toward entrepreneurship in the first place, and that is very much a good thing—you can’t be successful running an enterprise without it. By starting your own business, you are guaranteeing that every day will be fueled by a deep passion for what you are building. And take it from someone who runs his own small business: there are few feelings in the world that top that.

3) Control your own destiny! – Don’t like subjecting yourself to the decisions of your superiors? Frustrated with your recommendations being overlooked? Constantly feeling like you could steer the ship in a better direction? Wonder no longer. As an entrepreneur, you will have the ultimate control over the choices that dictate your company’s future—for better, or for worse.
